Punta Islita, Costa Rica

Mafia Island is a stunning and remote destination in the southeast of Tanzania. Since it’s not heavily visited by tourists, we decided to explore it. We chose to visit the northern part of the island. After a long and bumpy bus ride, we finally arrived.

As soon as we stepped off the bus, we were greeted by many local children returning from school. They curiously stopped by to say hello.

Where to stay???

We stayed at Samira’s, the only place to stay in the north of the island—several bungalows made from coconut trees, right on the beach.

The place was outstanding. Every morning, we woke up to swim at an incredible coral reef with the locals. In the evening, we enjoyed freshly cooked fish by the fire pit, gazing at the breathtaking stars above.

From there, you can even walk to Turtle Beach. The best part of this place is its wildness and remoteness, making it one of the most amazing places I’ve been.

If you ever visit Tanzania, be sure to explore the northern part of Mafia Island!
